Antibiotic sampling program encourages use of multi-source agents at Ocshner HMO.
Executive Summary
OCSHNER HEALTH PLAN GENERIC ANTIBIOTIC SAMPLING PROGRAM encourages use of multi-source antibiotic products within the Metairie, La. HMO, VP-Pharmacy Services Daniel Lewis told the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists mid-year clinical meeting Dec. 11 in New Orleans. "We spend lots and lots and lots of money on generic drug samples of antibiotics," Lewis said. "We buy cases" of such agents as amoxicillin and erythromycin "for about $10-$11 a hundred unit dose, and we give then to the physicians [as] samples. We're doing the same thing the industry does....We're putting samples in the sample cabinet."
