THIRD-PARTY PAYORS COVER 45.1% OF $57.2 BIL. RETAIL Rx MARKET in 1994, or $25.8 bil., according to IMS America's Retail Method-of-Payment Report. Cash payments accounted for 41.6% ($23.8 bil.) with Medicaid covering the remaining 13.2% ($7.6 bil.). 1994 marked "the first year the dollar value of managed care prescriptions exceeded cash payments," IMS commented.
