San Antonio center developing guidelines on cost-effective drug use in four drug categories -- nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, H receptor antagonists, antibiotics and cardiovascular drugs - that together account for 70% of Army drug spending. Specifically, fluoroquinolone antibiotics, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers and HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors will be reviewed and the guidelines will serve as a "preferred drug list."
