The naming of Ahrens, who resigned from Bristol-Myers Squibb effective June 1, is the first step in an "aggressively advancing" plan to establish and develop Merck's OTC business outside the U.S. Earlier in the year, the company named Jose Antonio Perez-Espana executive director and head of the Merck Consumer Healthcare Group in Europe. Perez-Espana, based in Madrid, will report to Ahrens, who is based in Woodbridge, N.J.
