RxPRC disbanded
Executive Summary
Prescription Drug Payment Commission, formed by the Catastrophic Care Act of 1988, will be disbanded Jan. 1, when the law is repealed. Rep. Levin (D-Mich.), who originated the concept of the commission last year, had attempted in the House/Senate conference on the repeal of the act to preserve the group by transforming it into a study commission. His attempt was unsuccessful and neither Levin nor any other member of Congress is currently interested in pursuing reauthorization of the group, according to Levin's office and RxPRC staff. RxPRC had been chaired by Alice Rivlin, Brookings Institution.
