Liposome Technology

Executive Summary

Receives patents for two topical minoxidil formulations using the firm's liposome-based delivery systems, LTI announced Aug. 2. The patents cover "novel methods and specific compounds which can be used to both solubilize minoxidil and enhance its transdermal penetration," firm says. The company is investigating the bioavailability and cosmetic appeal of its minoxidil formulations in cooperation with Rogaine marketer Upjohn, which owns two patents. LTI's rights to the baldness treatment are subject to Upjohn's patents, which expire in 1996. Upjohn and Procter & Gamble signed a joint venture agreement in October 1987 to develop improved minoxidil formulations and delivery systems.
