Bush Administration intends to nominate Janet Dempsey Steiger as FTC Commission Chairman for seven-year term retroactive to Sept. 26, the White House announced May 11. Daniel Oliver has been filling the chairman's role on an acting basis since his term expired on that date. Steiger, 49, has been chairman of the Commission on Veterans Educational Policy since 1987 and previously held several position with the Postal Rate Commission. She is a long-time friend of President Bush.
