APA on drugs in the elderly
The American Psychological Association recommends a change in Medicare to reimburse patients for psychological treatment, which, the association says, would permit alternatives to drug therapy. At a Feb. 24 press briefing, the association offered a number of recommendations to curb the over-prescribing of drugs in the geriatric population, including appropriate geriatric training for health care professionals and improving drug delivery supervision in nursing homes and related facilities.
