Merck Mectizan donation program

Executive Summary

Over 250,000 people in 11 African countries will receive Mectizan (ivermectin) for treating onchocerciasis, a parasitic disease, during 1989 and 1990. It is the first mass treatment program approved by the Mectizan Expert Committee under the Merck donation plan, Merck said. The ivermectin give away program was first announced in October 1987 ("The Pink Sheet" Oct. 26, T&G-5).
