OTA's SEVEN-PERSON ADVISORY GROUP WILL MEET NOV. 23 to discuss recommendations for Office of Technology Assessment appointees to the Prescription Drug Payment Review Commission (RxPRC) to be established under the Medicare Catastrophic Care Program. Resumes are being sent to the advisory panel, which will be chaired by the University of California at San Francisco's Institute for Health Policy Studies Director Phil Lee, who also chairs the Medicare Physician Payment Review Commission. After its one-day meeting, the panel will submit its recommendations for the 11- member RxPRC to OTA. The agency has deferred its target date for naming the commission from early November to early December. Other advisory panel members are Brandeis University's Heller School Dean Stuart Altman, who chairs Medicare's Prospective Payment Assessment Commission; American Association of Retired Persons Health Policy Analyst Judith Brown; Virginia Polytechnic Institute chemistry Professor Neal Castagnoli; Albany College of Pharmacy Professor Renaldo DeNuzzo; New York State Executive Deputy Commissioner of Health Lorna McBarnette; and Institute of Medicine President Samuel Thier.
