Legislation to enhance efforts to understand the human genome was reported out of the Senate Labor & Human Resources Committee on April 13. The bill (S 1480) would help the National Institutes of Health coordinate and fund biotechnology information resources, establish a Biotech Policy Board, and provide for a National Advisory Panel on the Human Genome to coordinate and provide strategic guidance for various national efforts to map and sequence the human genome.
