Following the Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster in the Soviet Union, Lilly is supplying the State Dept. with 100 bottles of potassium iodine to be used by U.S. embassy personnel. Potassium iodine blocks the uptake of radioactive iodine by the thyroid.
