Chese-Pond's
Executive Summary
Amidst rumors of possible merger talks, and in response to an inquiry from the Securities and Exchange Commission regarding recent increased trading volume in the stock of Chesebrough-Pond's, the company issued a statement Oct. 30 denying merger speculation. "We have not held nor are we holding discussions on any basis with any company or individual regarding a merger or takeover of the company," the firm maintained. Last week, Chese-Pond's stock hit a year high of 42-3/8 on rumors that it was a takeover target of the Anglo-Dutch conglomerate Unilever, which failed in its recent bid for Rich-Vicks.
