Cistron Technology announced that it has succeeded in expressing the gene for human interleukin-1 in both bacterial and mammalian cell culture, "resulting in high levels of biologically active protein." The Pine Brook, NJ-based biotech firm said it is presently selling interleukin-1 purified from human blood and has a licensed patent pending for the cloned cDna.
