Jewel Chairman, President, and CEO Richard Cline resigned effective Feb. 3. President of Jewel at the time of the chain's acquisition by American Stores, Cline acceded to the top spot at Jewel on the resignation of former Jewel Chairman and CEO Weston Christopherson following merger agreement. "The transition of Jewel from a public corporation into Am. Stores has been completed and it is now my desire to examine other alternatives," Cline said. He will not assume a seat on the Am Stores board as was planned
