Former Medscape executive Mike Squires has been named president of F-D-C Reports, Inc., an Elsevier company and publisher of Pharmaceutical Approvals Monthly, "The Pink Sheet" and "The Pink Sheet" DAILY.

Squires joined F-D-C May 3, and his first priorities include engaging readers and other customers in helping guide the evolution of F-D-C's news and information services.

"The strong currents sweeping the world of health care in research, manufacturing, marketing, and regulation, make it a particularly exciting time to be joining the leader in reporting on news and trends," Squires said.

"I look forward to listening to our readers and customers, learning from our expert reporting and publishing teams, and leading our news gathering and distribution operations forward."

"The sheets each enjoy a special relationship with a group of industry leaders and readers, who know they can't get the depth or timeliness elsewhere," Squires said. He has been reading "The Pink Sheet" since entering the health care world eight years ago.

Squires also launched a major advertising campaign via F-D-C publications to help establish Medscape as the industry leader.

In 1997, Squires joined the start-up website Medscape (1 www.medscape.com), which became the leading physician portal (now owned by WebMD). At the firm, where he rose to VP-pharmaceutical sales & client relations, Squires led initiatives in marketing to pharmaceutical and device companies.

After leaving Medscape in 2002, Squires served as a pharmaceutical marketing consultant to companies including Elsevier/International Medical News Group (IMNG), and held marketing and sales positions in medical print and Internet publishing. Earlier, Squires directed global marketing for the videoconferencing subsidiary of the World Trade Centers Association.

In this capacity, Squires supported international trade missions and videoconferencing business applications. His news career began with advertising sales for the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Daily News, rising to VP & East Coast Manager. He also directed the North American sales operation for the Times of London and Sunday Times.
