Barr launches generic fluoxetine 20 mg on Aug. 2 at $2.67 average wholesale price per capsule, a 10% discount to Lilly's Prozac. Following a July 27 decision in Indianapolis district court, Barr, Par and Geneva have 180 days of exclusivity on their different fluoxetine formulations. Geneva's 10 mg capsule is $2.60 AWP. Par's formulations will be $2.60 AWP for a 10 mg tablet, $2.67 for a 20 mg tablet and $5.34 for a 40 mg capsule. A June Decision Resources survey of 72 primary care physicians who are high-volume prescribers of antidepressants indicated that 20-25% of physicians will maintain Prozac loyalty for newly diagnosed patients. "Preference for the branded product drops dramatically for existing patients, for whom weekly Prozac is another option," DR said
