New Zealand has announced that its Orthopaedic Initiative (2004-2008) completed 7,140 major joint operations in 2004-05, exceeding its target of 6,643. 142 of the procedures involved two joints being operated on. The target for 2005-06 is 8,140 procedures, said health minister Pete Hodgson.
